The most boring election ever…
Another year goes by in the eternal merry-go-round of Colchester Politics where close to 70% of registered voters just cannot be arsed.
The candidates and especially the incumbents with their vastly over inflated sense of self importance oblivious to the vast majority who just ignore the absolute clown show that is Colchester Council.
Things did get mildly interesting a few days before, as the Lib Dems accused the Labour Party of lying in leaflets, without a hint of irony, while activists likened the Conservatives to actual Nazis. The outcome is that whoever is behind these leaflets is probably not claiming wilful incompetence, and they will likely be on friendly terms again by Monday.
How did my predictions go?
I got the following wrong;
Highwoods — Predicted a Labour gain but was a Lib Dem hold.
Shrub End — Predicted a Lib Dem hold but a Labour gain.
Castle — Predicted a Labour gain (Candidate Hold), but it was a Green hold (Candidate gain)
Mersea — Predicted an independent gain but it was a Conservative hold.
What about them Blues?
Now, this shocked me, as let’s face it, the Tories nationally are about as popular as Steph Nissan at a Green Party meeting. However, they held the line, and our ancestors will talk about Darius as the new Leonidas.
I am pleased for Jeremy Hagon. He is well passed his silly stage and does work hard for his residents.
The Reds
It’s was not a bad night at all, and something to build on, especially taking vote share off the Liberal Democrats. The silliness with the leaflets was unnecessary and would expect the silly sausage who did that to be removed from future campaigns. You always play the ball, not the man.
The Yellow Birds
There is so much bravado from the denialist in chief Mr Goss that he is going to have an awful time at the General Election. He does do well in Mile End, but the rest of the town just does not like him. His face was on every leaflet and does them no favours, and he would expect someone like Mark Cory or David King to have a much better cut through. However, they have made their bed, and the outcome is obvious.
The Greens
A weird campaign that was full of virtue and vagueness. They control the town centre, which lets face it is not worth visiting anymore, and is more like a Just Eat and Deliveroo car park. I think they are happy with what they got and overheard someone use the following to describe the local party.
They are inoffensively ineffective
To be honest, in todays politics, it is probably the closest we get to competence.
In summary
Nothing has changed, same old same old. Everyone keeps their extra bunce and every local failure is blamed nationally and the cycle of incompetence continues. I am sure whoever reads that will see ‘cycling’ and think that was the vast majority of residents want…
Until next time (Shoot me)
